Mr. Doug Lewis (E Dan)

Cho Dan Lewis (2nd Degree Instructor)

Mr. Doug Lewis, E Dan (8/2017)

Mr. Lewis has a broad range of martial arts experience spanning Muai Thai, Hapkido, Wing Chun, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Aikido, Aiki-Ju Jitsu, Tang Soo Do, and a few others. Mr. Lewis’ initial introduction to Tang Soo Do was through Moo Duk Kwan while in England, under the direction of Master Yahp in London, Ee Dan Chris Heim, and Cho Dan Hiram Turner. Returning to the United States he trained in Muai Thai, Capoeira, Jeet Kune Do, and Jujitsu under Mr. Mick Doyle and Judo under Go Dan Bill Kautt.

His introduction to World Tang Soo Do came when he trained at Fort Crook Tang Soo Do under the direction of Sam Dan Mark Eaton and Ms. Linda Russo attaining Cho Dan Bo. He relocated back to England but found the Tang Soo Do school had closed so he trained in Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and Shotokan Karate receiving Cho Dan in each under the direction of Shi Dan G. Turner. Once again returning to the United States in 2000 Mr. Lewis trained in Aikido but after deploying, relocated to Texas where he was able to train in Soo Bahk Do under Master Hiram Turner. After several deployments Mr. Lewis eventually returned to Omaha and trained in Wing Chun before discovering Omaha Tang Soo Do.

Under the guidance and direction of Master Bruce Finger he attained Cho Dan and his instructor certification. Mr. Lewis is an avid student and budding martial arts historian. He has learned many important lessons along the way and developed his “Do” to help him throughout his life. Through his training, Mr. Lewis realized a higher standard for his martial arts efforts. He learned that the things he set out to do could be reached gradually through hard work and determination.

Over the years and between many military deployments Mr. Lewis stopped in to a dojang wherever he was at for a few months of training before redeploying, working out in the desert behind his tent many times. Eventually, schedules changed, and with his latest return to Tang Soo Do in Nov 2012, he brought a new generation with him to train in the art of Tang Soo Do. Mr. Lewis has had many struggles to overcome while training, getting older not the least of these, but enjoys teaching any who would learn about martial arts. After running into Mr. Koivisto at Regional’s this year…plans to start Haidong Gumdo also.
